Under the motto “Emergency. Education. Empowerment.”, numerous dedicated individuals, professionals, and supporters gathered in Dornburg on October 11.
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Notfallmedizin Fürth e.V. (AGNF), Health for Uganda/Africa e.V. and the Reiner Schmidt Libertas Foundation had jointly invited participents to this conference – united by one goal: saving lives through education, exchange and international cooperation.
Projects that bring hope
A central focus of the event was the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Emergency Medicine in Uganda.
Along the Gulu Highway, a modern emergency medical competence center is to be built – designed to sustainably strengthen emergency medicine in Uganda and to save lives in cases of accidents or medical emergencies.
The project is being developed in close cooperation with the Association of Ambulance Professionals Uganda (AAPU), whose representatives traveled to the conference to provide first-hand insights. A summary of the concept can be found here.

Exchange – Inspiration – Commitment
Participants gained fascinating insights into the project work, heard field reports from Uganda and Germany, and discovered numerous opportunities to contribute – ideologically, professionally, or financially.
The congress served as a medical exchange program, featuring short keynote speeches and panel discussions between Ugandan and German emergency physicians: learning on equal footing – a benefit for both sides.
Through intensive discussions, one message became clear: Only through joint action can we create lasting change.
The day concluded with an informal gathering, where new connections were made and ideas for the future were forged.
The congress demonstrated how much can be achieved when dedication, expertise, and empathy come together.
We express our heartfelt thanks to all participants, supporters, and partners – especially to AAPU – for their contribution to building a fairer and more effective medical care system in Uganda.
