The Emergency Medicine Fürth working group is currently training staff from the emergency departments in Lviv and Kyiv in Fürth. The subsequent training courses in Ukraine will begin next week.

The Emergency Severity Index (ESI) is an internationally recognized assessment method, especially for emergency departments, which improves patient safety and prioritization by means of a five-stage initial assessment.

In collaboration with its Ukrainian partners, the University of Ternopil and the National Rehabilitation Center Unbroken, the AGNF instructor team is passing on valuable knowledge to five Ukrainian experts who are visiting emergency departments in Fürth and Nuremberg as part of their training and undergoing theoretical and practical training. The joint creation of a concept for the sustainable introduction and implementation of the triage system is also part of the cooperation.

Laura Beutler, Head of International Projects at AGNF, explains: “The Ukrainians trained in Fürth will be passing on their newly acquired knowledge as trainers at events in Lviv starting next week, where around 200 employees from Ukrainian hospitals are expected to attend. The best of them will receive additional training in order to gain further multipliers, who in turn will train their colleagues in ESI so that patients in as many hospitals in Ukraine as possible can benefit from optimized patient prioritization.”

The ESI-Triage training courses are part of numerous projects that the AGNF launched after the start of the war of aggression in Ukraine. In addition to expanding emergency medical structures, the AGNF has, for example, initiated aid deliveries to Ukraine. The ESI-Triage project is supported by the GIZ Clinic Partnerships funding program.
